By the Soles of Our Feet is a revenge story told in 7 chapters, each one influenced by a different movie genre. It covers everything from the Epic Adventure to Horror (which means we get to have zombies!).
We are gearing up to shoot Chapters 1 and 2 in the coming months in majestic Northern California. As part of this preparation, our director requested the actors and some of the crew to review archetypes in the genres we are shooting (which means our homework is to watch some great movies!).
Here’s a peak at some of our Director’s notes/references for Chapter 1:
Chapter 1 (Musical/Romantic Comedy)
Explores the comical side of the battle of the sexes – with song! Every aspect of the production (acting, wardrobe, location, camera, score, etc.) will draw from the artificiality commonly associated with these genres, as well as those love-to-hate clichés. It’s a sappy good time!

What are some of your favorite musicals and or rom-coms of all time???
When it comes to ROM COM’s mine are first Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Punch Drunk Love coming up pretty close. When it comes to musicals, I grew up with Mary Poppins and Sound of Music , West SIde Story was my first true love of musicals and Dancer in the Dark made me think of musicals in a total new way.
Is the Money Pit considered a Rom Com? I like that one so I’m just going to go with it. When it comes to musicals I’ll pick “The Sound Of Music” and/or “Team America” which is technically a musical in my opinion.
Sixteen Candles!! I watch it like 4 or 5 times a year and it never stops to make me laugh. Also I can never stop drooling over Jake Ryan
I LOVE ROM-COMS… oh yea… My PF is “Can’t Buy Me Love”… yes, lots of memories watching that on the big-screen with my neice and wishing I looked that good – tan, blonde, bubbly – that drove a convertible VW, wrote poetry, and, of course, the insight that Patrick Demsey would be eventually become totally hot at some point.
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY

And I’m excited about the 2012 version, WHEN HARRY MET LARRY
The only Rom-Coms I can tolerate are the 80’s classics – 16 CANDLES and SAY ANYTHING!
